Hope in the Storms
No matter who you are, or where you from, you are probably going through or have gone through difficult times in your life. If you’re like me, you’re probably discontented with where you are but don’t want to do anything to change it. Maybe you want a different job. Or a different home. Maybe a different spouse or a different car. Maybe you’re problems are more serious. Maybe you want to have faith again. Or maybe you just want to someone to care about you. Every single one of us goes through difficulties on an every day basis. But here’s the good news: it’s only temporary!
Life is short. Really short. It doesn’t always seem that way but compared to eternity, it is. And you are going to live forever so you might as well come to grips with the fact that life here on Earth is very short. That means that even if you have difficulties in life from day one to the end, you’ll look back on it and it will seem like nothing.
I’m not downplaying your problems though, don’t get me wrong. Life is hard. We often have things come our way that are out of our control and spin our life in a direction we never intended to go. The pain comes rushing in like the tide crushing our dreams beneath the sand. We get knocked down time and time again. Sometimes I feel like I don’t have the strength to get back up. But if I don’t get up and try again, I will never get up. I’ve got to get back up and keep moving focused on God. He will always be enough strength to pull you out of whatever trouble you’re in.
Maybe you’re familiar with the story in the Bible of Jesus on the boat with His disciples. He tells them to sail across the lake and while they do He decides to take a nap. Now, Jesus being God, He probably knew what was going to happen. Anyways, Jesus goes to catch some rest and all of the sudden a storm comes. As the storm comes through the disciples began to fear for their lives. They are in a tough spot. They think they are going to die. The storm came through and they lost their strength. Immediately they woke Jesus up screaming ”Lord save us! We’re going to drown!” Now not only is their lack of faith astounding, but they woke God up in the middle of His nap. He replied to the disciples, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” then got up and calmed the storms.
These disciples were scared for their lives and a storm was about to take them out. They ran to God and asked Him to save them and then, their storms were calmed. Jesus will always pull you through the storm, no matter what. That doesn’t mean you won’t have to go through pain and suffering. That’s a part of life and to be like Jesus that’s something you just have to go through. Pain is inevitable. But there is hope in God.
Absolutely nothing can separate you from the love of Christ. The worst thing that can happen to you in this life is death. And in that case you go be with Jesus which is the best thing that can happen to you. That is where your joy comes from. Not happiness, but joy. Happiness is based on our circumstances and happenings. Some days you will be happy and some you won’t. But you can always be joyous knowing that you will spend eternity with Christ and that He loves you no matter you are going through in life.
